Alumni Knowledge Video Webcast - A Routinely Exceptional Year: Global Private Markets Review
August 08, 2017
Tuesday, August 8: 7:30 – 8:45 a.m. PDT / 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. EDT / 4:30 – 5:45 p.m. CEST

The Private Equity and Principal Investor Practice recently published its annual report on private markets, examining the sectors’ latest developments, challenges and opportunities. The report draws on our long-running research on private markets and on interviews with a dozen executives at some of the world’s largest and most influential GPs (general partners) and LPs (limited partners). Based on our research and interviews, the most exciting news for private markets in 2016 may have been what didn’t change. Whether measured by fundraising (firms received $625 billion of new capital in 2016 – and plenty of shadow capital, too) or AUM (assets under management – now $4.7 trillion worldwide), private markets continued an impressive cycle of expansion that began in 2008.

While this growth is to be celebrated, it also presents challenges in the form of increased competition and rising deal multiples. However, the industry is already proving it can manage growth responsibly. For example, the record level of dry powder (uninvested capital that is available to private markets firms) generates a lot of headlines, but our research shows that the industry actually manages this “inventory” remarkably well. Our research found some ways that leading firms continue to adapt to this growth, particularly in the face of geopolitical and market uncertainty.

Join Senior Partner Aly Jeddy (New York) and Associate Partner Matt Portner (Toronto) for this video webcast, during which they will brief us on the findings from their report and share the near-term outlook for the sector.
